What is it like in Ayampe?

Ayampe is a charming town located on the Manabí Coast, ideal for those who like nature.

The average climate is 75 degrees Fahrenheit, and this typically ranges from 80 degrees in the Ecuadorean beach season (December-April) to 70 degrees from May to November. The climate is warmly embraced by those seeking respite from cold North American winters.

Ayampe offers a complete and relaxing escape for those desiring refuge from the hustle and bustle of big cities. Not only will you find no freeways here, you’ll have to return to the highway to find a paved road. That spells tranquility and decompression, as Ayampe isn’t a wild “party town.” For those seeking a night out on the town, a greater variety of night life can be found in Montañita and Olón, and in Puerto Lopez, a mere 13 miles away.

What’s more, Ayampe offers very good food places along with inexpensive hostels for the budget-minded. La Cosecha friends may enjoy higher quality rooms and amenities at Villas Los Olivos, a boutique hotel build by La Cosecha founder Jenica Brigham and the construction crew of locals she trained.

A great attraction for water lovers is a range of water sports: scuba dives, snorkeling, surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and kayaking to nearby islands. Ayampe’s beach is unique in Ecuador for having the only coastal reef, and tubular waves loved by surfers are not uncommon.

Boat tours are also available as are whale watching tours from June to September. And boats are available to rent for fishing tours to nearby islands.

Along with a beautiful beach, guided hikes are available where hikers can traverse local hills and photograph a variety of seabirds. Other local attractions include the Machalilla National Park, Los Frailes beach, Isla Salango, and Isla de la Plata.
